Follow these steps on how you could style your engagement shoot so you don't have to hire a stylist, which can also help you save on your wedding.
Step #1 Do Your Research
Search for photos of different looks and style of engagement photos.
I searched online for photos of vintage style picnic engagement shoots to give me ideas on the concept, costume, props and setting for the photo shoot.
Here are some of the photos that I found online.
Step # 2 Decide on the theme and location of your Engagement Photo Shoot.
Searching online can give you tons of ideas for the shoot. You can base your theme on a location, an era, a hobby that both of you share or a movie that you like.
The location that you choose gives the backdrop for the shoot. It determines whether or not you still need to bring in props. You can also collaborate with your photographer so he/she can help you select a location that would best suit your concept.
Step # 3 Choose the costumes and accessories that would best fit your desired theme.
Here are the costumes that I selected for the shoot. These are clothes that I got from my closet.. and my mom's closet!
The long skirt was from my mom.
The blue floral skirt was actually my mom's old blouse which she wore when she was pregnant with me. I just had it converted into a skirt to match the blue lace top.
DVF dress
pearl accessories and gold heels
3strand pearl necklace, birdcage veil headband & black shoes
Step # 4 Select props
Select props that could complement your theme.
Here's a photo of the props that I found at home that we used for our vintage picnic photo shoot.
picnic basket, lantern, hydrangea bouquet, framed wedding monogram
Step # 5 Plan your hair and make-up look
Select photos of hairstyles and make-up that would best suit your theme and costume.
Bring the photos along with you in the salon so the hair and make-up artist can easily follow the look that you want to achieve.
Step # 5 Have fun during your photoshoot =)
Relax and enjoy the shoot. This is like a rehearsal for you to get used to being in front of the camera and to feel comfortable working with your photographer.
